TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers in Tampa should prepare for significant delays near the intersection of East Hillsborough Avenue and North 30th Street starting immediately. A water main break has forced the Tampa Water Department to close multiple lanes this morning (Dec. 18) to begin emergency repairs.
The closures affect two key stretches of road:
- East Hillsborough Avenue: The center and outside eastbound lanes are closed between North 30th Street and North 32nd Street.
- North 30th Street: Both northbound lanes are completely shut down between East Giddens Avenue and East Hillsborough Avenue.

Crews have placed barricades and signage to help navigate traffic around the work zone, but officials are urging commuters to exercise caution and plan for extra travel time. If possible, drivers should seek alternate routes to avoid the area entirely.
This will not be a quick fix. Current estimates from the city indicate the lanes will remain closed until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23.
However, that timeline depends on the weather and how the repairs progress. The Water Department also noted that crews may need to return at a later date to complete additional work on the site.
