TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers traveling through the area of South 50th Street should prepare for delays this week due to an emergency utility repair. Starting at 9:00 AM today, February 2, the Tampa Water Department closed the southbound outside lane between South 20th Avenue and South 21st Avenue.
The closure is necessary to allow crews to repair a water main break located beneath the roadway.
The city has staged barricades and directional signage to help manage the flow of traffic around the work site. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and remain alert for workers while traveling through this specific block.

City officials noted that while the current setup is in place, minor adjustments to the traffic pattern may be required as the repair progresses.
If the work stays on schedule and weather conditions remain favorable, the lane is expected to reopen by 4:30 PM on Friday, February 6.
However, the Tampa Water Department mentioned that additional follow-up work may be required at a later date. In that event, a new update will be issued to the public. For now, the department is asking for the community’s patience as they work to restore the infrastructure.
