TAMPA, Fla. – A water main break has forced city crews to shut down a chunk of North West Shore Boulevard, threatening to slow down the daily commute for thousands of drivers through the end of the workweek.
Starting at 8:30 a.m. today, workers will block off the outside northbound lane and the adjacent sidewalk between West Cypress Street and West Laurel Street.
Barricades and detour signs will be in place throughout the area to guide drivers around the closure, but city officials are urging everyone to use extra caution when driving in the zone.

Because utility infrastructure repairs can be unpredictable, the city noted that further modifications to traffic patterns might be necessary as the dig progresses.
If everything goes according to plan, the work should wrap up, and traffic will return to normal by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22. However, that timeline depends heavily on the weather, and the Tampa Water Department cautioned that crews might have to return later to complete secondary repairs.
Drivers are advised to expect delays or seek alternative routes until Friday evening.
