TAMPA, Fla. – A water main break is going to complicate the morning commute for drivers in the West Shore business district starting today.
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, city crews will shut down the outside northbound lane and the adjacent sidewalk on North West Shore Boulevard. The closure stretches between West Cypress Street and West Laurel Street, where the Tampa Water Department needs to make extensive repairs to a broken water pipe.
Local officials are placing signs and barricades around the construction zone to help guide drivers through the single-lane restriction. Drivers are being asked to use extra caution when traveling through the area, and project managers noted that traffic paths might change as the repair work progresses.
If everything goes according to plan, the city expects to wrap up the project and restore normal traffic patterns by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 29. However, that timeline depends entirely on the weather.
Area residents and drivers should also keep in mind that this might not be the final fix. “The Tampa Water Department may need to return at a later date to complete additional work,” city officials said in a statement, adding that “the staff and crews of the Tampa Water Department appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.” The city promises to release another update if crews have to return to the site for further repairs.
