TAMPA, Fla. — Drivers heading west through the Town ‘n’ Country area should prepare for tapping the brakes this week. The Tampa Water Department has announced a lane closure on a key stretch of West Hillsborough Avenue starting Tuesday morning to handle necessary maintenance on the water distribution system.
Effective at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, crews will close the outside westbound lane of West Hillsborough Avenue between Daniels Road and Hanley Road.

While traffic will continue to flow, the reduction to the thoroughfare is expected to cause bottlenecks. Barricades and directional signs are currently being staged in the area to help navigate drivers around the work zone. Officials are urging commuters to keep an eye out for crews and, if possible, find an alternate route to avoid the congestion entirely.
The department estimates the work will take four days. If all goes according to plan, the lane should reopen and traffic patterns should return to normal by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23.
Drivers should note that this timeline is weather-dependent, and the scope of the lane closures could shift slightly as the maintenance work progresses.
