TAMPA, Fla. – Monday morning commutes in Tampa are getting a bit more complicated as the Water Department kicks off a busy week of repairs. Starting at 9:00 AM today, drivers will need to navigate two separate work zones that are likely to cause some headaches through the afternoon.

The biggest impact is at the intersection of West Sligh and North Albany. All lanes of North Albany Avenue are currently blocked off between West Sligh and West Norfolk Street.

This closure is expected to last until Thursday afternoon at 4:30 PM while crews finalize permanent road restorations from an earlier water main break. You’ll also find the outside westbound lane of West Sligh Avenue squeezed down between North Fremont and North Howard during this time.

Meanwhile, a shorter-term project is unfolding over on West Cypress Street. Both eastbound lanes are shut down between North Lois Avenue and North Grady Avenue for system maintenance. Luckily, this stretch is expected to reopen by 5:00 PM this evening, provided the weather stays dry.

City officials have already placed barricades and detour signs at both sites. If you’re heading through these areas, stay alert for workers and expect some stop-and-go traffic. As always, these timelines are a bit flexible depending on what crews find under the asphalt and whether any Florida afternoon storms roll through.
