TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa area drivers are advised of a significant traffic change this week as crews prepare to temporarily close the westbound I-4 ramp to northbound I-275 on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, and Thursday, October 16, weather permitting. These overnight ramp closures are necessary for maintenance activities related to the ongoing Downtown Tampa Interchange (I-275/I-4) Safety and Operational Improvements project.
Detour Route Announced
Motorists planning to use the ramp should be prepared for a detour. The official alternate route is as follows:
- Continue west on I-4.
- Take Exit 45A toward Downtown East.
- Follow Orange Avenue south.
- Turn left onto Cass Street.
- Turn left onto Orange Connector to access northbound I-275.

Drivers are urged to use extra caution while navigating the work zone, particularly to remain alert for pedestrians and construction workers.
Project officials stress that these temporary closures are required to facilitate essential maintenance work designed to enhance safety and operations within the busy interchange.
