TAMPA, Fla. — Drivers navigating Tampa’s Westshore district should prepare for a significant route change starting this week. A section of East Frontage Road is set to close for approximately one year as crews begin critical drainage work.

Starting Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, the stretch of East Frontage Road located east of SR 60/Memorial Highway—specifically between West Cypress Street and West Lemon Street—will be blocked off to traffic. Officials expect the closure to remain in place until January 2027.

The shutdown is a necessary step for drainage installation associated with the broader safety and operational overhaul of the Westshore Interchange (I-275/SR 60) in Hillsborough County.

Detour Information

Motorists will need to utilize West Occident Street to navigate around the work zone.

  • From West Cypress Street: Turn south onto West Occident Street, then head east on West Lemon Street to reach businesses along East Frontage Road.
  • From West Lemon Street: Turn left onto West Occident Street and continue north to reconnect with West Cypress Street.

Drivers are urged to slow down and stay alert for construction crews and heavy equipment when traveling near the work zone.
