TAMPA, Fla. – A 57-year-old Tampa woman has been arrested for the financial exploitation of an elderly hospice patient, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Shawn Livingston was arrested on March 7, 2025, after an investigation revealed she exploited a patient under her care in the 14000 block of Clubhouse Circle in Tampa.

On March 4, 2025, deputies responded to a delayed fraud report from the victim, who is receiving hospice care. The victim reported being defrauded by Livingston, a home health assistant employed to assist with daily needs.

Investigators determined that Livingston, an employee of a home healthcare company, convinced the victim to use Zelle for service payments. She then allegedly manipulated the transactions, transferring money to her own accounts, paying her creditors, and making payments to Carnival Cruises. The fraud began on January 28, 2025, and totaled over $7,000.

Livingston faces multiple charges, including:

  • Exploitation of an Elderly Person (Misuse of Account)
  • Fraudulent Use of Personal Information Over $5,000 (10 but Less Than 20 Victims)
  • Grand Theft – Third Degree ($5,000 – $10,000)
  • Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card Over $100
  • Uttering a Forged Instrument (x2)

“The actions of this individual are unacceptable and despicable. Preying on a hospice patient, someone who relies on others for care and support, is a heartless and disgraceful betrayal,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are committed to protecting our most vulnerable residents. Let this serve as a clear message: this kind of abuse has no place in our community, and we will do everything possible to bring those responsible to justice.”
