Tampa Woman Injured In Head-On Collision With Lakeland Driver Shutting Down SR-574

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Traffic came to a standstill on SR-574 Friday morning following a violent two-vehicle crash west of Chastain Road. At approximately 10:00 AM, a Chevy Trax driven by a 74-year-old woman from Tampa was heading eastbound when it suddenly crossed the center line.

According to state troopers, the SUV entered the opposing lane and struck a westbound Ford F350 nearly head-on. The truck, which was being driven by a 25-year-old Lakeland man, was towing a trailer at the time of the impact.

The force of the collision caused both vehicles to spin out across the asphalt, ultimately coming to a rest in a position that completely blocked the highway.

First responders arrived on the scene to find the driver of the Chevy with serious injuries. She was stabilized and transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

The driver of the Ford truck sustained only minor injuries and declined transport to a medical facility. Crews remained on the scene for several hours to clear the wreckage and the trailer, while investigators worked to determine why the eastbound vehicle veered into oncoming traffic.
