TAMPA, Fla. – The Hillsborough River is about to get a vibrant makeover. On Saturday, March 14, Tampa will host its 14th annual River O’ Green festival, an event that has become a staple for the city’s downtown scene.

Between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park will serve as the hub for a celebration that combines Irish tradition with Florida sunshine.

Organizers at the Tampa Downtown Partnership, along with presenting sponsor Grow Financial, confirmed that the river coloring will once again be a central highlight. The dye used to turn the water kelly green is non-toxic, biodegradable, and meets all EPA standards, ensuring the environmental health of the waterway remains a priority.

This year’s schedule introduces several new features aimed at expanding the event’s reach. A youth-focused market called the Wee Lads Shamrock Shoppes will showcase local kid-run businesses, while the Tampa Rough Riders are set to debut an Irish Color Guard performance. For those looking for a more curated experience, a new VIP section hosted by Downtown Crawlers will offer shaded seating and a private bar.

The day’s music lineup is headlined by Irish singer-songwriter Shane Beirne, who will take the main stage in the afternoon. Other performers include the Finnegan Irish Dance Academy and local acts like Paddy O’Furniture. Beyond the music, the popular pet costume contest, sponsored by The Barrymore Hotel, returns to see which local dogs can pull off the best Celtic look.

At 2:00 p.m., the celebration expands into the streets with the Tampa Rough Riders’ St. Patrick’s Parade. The procession will feature floats and music, weaving through the downtown corridor as the festival continues at the park.

Local officials point to the event as a significant driver for the area’s economy.

“We’re thrilled once again to partner with the City of Tampa and Grow Financial to bring one of the region’s largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to life,” said Kenyetta Hairston Bridges, President & CEO of the Tampa Downtown Partnership. “This family‑friendly event draws thousands of residents and visitors into Downtown, boosting support for our local small businesses and showcasing the vibrancy and energy that define our urban core.”

Logistics for the day include several road and waterway closures. Drivers should expect Ashley Drive to close starting at 11:00 a.m., with Cass Street following at 1:00 p.m. Most roads are expected to reopen by 7:00 p.m. Boaters should be aware that the stretch of the river between Cass Street and Kennedy Boulevard will be closed for an hour starting at 10:30 a.m. for the coloring process.

To manage the crowds, the city is encouraging the use of public transit, including the free TECO Streetcar from Ybor City and HART bus routes. A free bike valet will also be available on-site for those cycling to the waterfront.
