Tap Water In These Hillsborough County Neighborhoods Is About To Taste Different For 3 Weeks

TAMPA, Fla. – A temporary water maintenance project by the Tampa Water Department will impact drinking water for several Hillsborough County neighborhoods starting tomorrow, bringing noticeable changes to local taps.

From Friday, May 29, through Friday, June 19, the water utility will temporarily switch its primary disinfection method from chloramine to chlorine. Officials state that the system will return to standard chloramine treatment by June 20.

The maintenance window will directly affect county water customers living in East Lake, Fairview Mobile Home Park, Hershel Heights, Pebble Creek, and Seaboard.

County officials noted that residents living within these service zones might detect a slight variation in both the taste and odor of their tap water while the chlorine treatment is active.

The shift in chemical treatments requires specific precautions for certain residents. Individuals who operate dialysis machines, as well as aquarium owners, are being advised to consult professionals immediately to verify that their current water pretreatment systems can safely handle the temporary conversion to chlorine.

Residents with underlying health concerns or questions regarding the temporary change should contact their primary healthcare provider. For general questions about water conditions or specific project details, Hillsborough County Water Quality has opened two direct phone lines for affected customers at (813) 264-3835 or (813) 744-5544.
