Tarpon Springs Police Investigating Attempted Carjacking

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – On Friday at approximately 6:07 am, Tarpon Springs Police Officers responded to the Hampton Inn, 39284 US Hwy 19, in reference to an attempted carjacking.

According to police, a 67-year-old woman was sitting in the passenger seat of a car after dropping another person off at the Hampton Inn. 

Before the woman could transition to the driver’s seat, a white male came up to the driver’s side of her vehicle and hit the windows with his hands. 

Police say the male then opened the door and got into the driver’s seat and stated “We got to get out of here”. 

The woman told police that she was about to be kidnapped. 

Police say the woman was able to get her seatbelt off and exit the vehicle, and the suspect also exited the vehicle and fled the area on a bicycle.

No weapons were implied or shown by the suspect during this incident. The victim in this incident wishes to remain anonymous per Marsy’s Law.

This case is being investigated by the Tarpon Springs Police Department Detectives.
