PALM HARBOR, Fla. – A 16-year-old girl was taken to an area hospital Tuesday afternoon after being struck by an SUV near Palm Harbor University High School, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 12:15 p.m. along Omaha Street in Pinellas County.
State troopers said a 74-year-old Palm Harbor woman was driving a Chevrolet SUV southbound on Omaha Street next to the high school campus. At the same time, the teenager tried to cross the road and walked into the path of the oncoming vehicle.
The SUV struck the girl, who sustained injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening. Emergency responders transported her to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Officials have not released the names of the driver or the teenager involved. The incident remains under standard review by the Florida Highway Patrol.
