ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 15-year-old boy is fighting for his life in critical condition after being struck by a car while using a marked crosswalk in St. Petersburg on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at 9:49 a.m. at the intersection of 9th Avenue North and 25th Street North. According to police investigators, a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound in the median lane on 9th Avenue North when it hit the teenager. Authorities noted that the 15-year-old had activated the crosswalk flashing lights before attempting to walk across the street.
Emergency crews rushed the teenager to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, where medical staff continue to treat his severe injuries.
The driver of the Honda Accord stayed at the scene following the collision and is cooperating with law enforcement.
St. Petersburg Police Department officers initially shut down the intersection to traffic, stating, “The intersection is shut down pending the investigation. We ask that drivers seek an alternate route.” Roadways have since been reopened to regular traffic, though police emphasize that the investigation into the exact cause of the crash remains active and ongoing.

Emergency crews and police officers rushed to the scene at 9th Avenue North and 25th Street North at 9:49 a.m. following reports of a pedestrian-involved crash. First responders transported the teenager to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for treatment.
The driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene and is cooperating with officials.
