A fun family outing turned into a terrifying ordeal last Saturday when a 19-year-old allegedly entered a Chuck E. Cheese, wielded a gun, and threatened workers and patrons, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say Tavares McFadden-World, 19, entered the children’s entertainment center in Columbia and pointed a firearm at an employee’s head and two other individuals, one of whom he allegedly held against his will. The incident unfolded in front of terrified children and parents.

An anonymous father who was present with his family recounted the trauma to local Fox affiliate WACH, stating, “My kids can’t sleep now,” and describing the “pure fear” in his daughters’ eyes.

The frightening situation ended when another patron reportedly pulled out their own firearm, prompting McFadden-World to flee, allegedly dropping his gun and scattering bullets as he left. He was reportedly picked up by Kenzie Miller, another teenager. Both later returned to the scene and were detained without incident.

McFadden-World faces charges including kidnapping, assault and battery, three counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, and tampering with evidence. He was booked on a $75,000 bond. Miller is charged with obstruction of justice.

The father who spoke to WACH criticized the establishment’s security, claiming McFadden-World “came in easily” with “zero security.” Chuck E. Cheese has not responded to requests for comment.
