Tennessee Child Level 3 Severe Autism Experiences the Magic of Disney World and Universal Studios, Fulfilling a Six-Month-Long Dream
For six months, Dalton Strader, a young boy from Tennessee living with Level 3 Severe Autism, dreamt of stepping into the vibrant, animated worlds he’d only seen on screen.
Thanks to the generosity of a private donor and the dedicated efforts of the Sunshine Foundation, that dream has now become a heartwarming reality. Dalton was recently granted a “Magical Dream” trip to the Central Florida Theme Parks, an experience that profoundly touched him and his family.
Dalton’s journey was filled with anticipation, as his mom shared. “For six months, since the moment we found out we were going, Dalton has been talking nonstop about Toy Story Land and Minion Land, watching countless videos on YouTube, dreaming of this day.” The reality, however, surpassed all expectations.
His mother recounted the incredible moments: “Watching his eyes light up as he saw his favorite characters come to life was the most incredible gift a parent could ever receive. Seeing him in pure amazement, stepping into the cartoon worlds he’s only seen on TV, filled my heart in ways I can’t describe.”
The trip was particularly special for Dalton due to his love for certain characters and attractions. “The green army men at Toy Story Land stopped to talk to him, and that simple moment made his entire day—and mine. When he hugged Woody, Jesse, and Gru, my ‘mom’ heart completely melted.”

Dalton’s mother expressed profound gratitude to the Sunshine Foundation and their anonymous sponsor. “Thank you to our sponsor and the Sunshine Foundation for making Dalton’s dream come true. We could have never given him this experience on our own, and it meant the world to us.” She also spoke of the emotional impact of learning about the foundation’s origins, started by a police officer, noting, “I cried my eyes out. It touched my soul to see how many children like Dalton have been given the chance to live out their dreams.”
The Sunshine Foundation is a unique wish-granting organization that focuses on fulfilling the dreams of children with lifelong severe chronic illnesses and conditions, including spina bifida, cerebral palsy, Level 3 severe autism, Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, severe epilepsy, and many others. Unlike some other organizations, the Sunshine Foundation does not require a life-threatening or critical diagnosis, ensuring that more children like Dalton can experience moments of pure joy.

The organization is highly regarded, boasting a perfect 100% score on Charity Navigator and an “A” rating on CharityWatch, making it a top-rated wish-granting organization in America.
While “Magical Dreams” to Central Florida theme parks are the most common requests, often including stays at the Sunshine Foundation Dream Village near Disney, the foundation also grants “Special Dreams.” These can range from shopping sprees and adaptive tricycles to computers, outdoor playsets, and family trips, all tailored to meet the specific needs and desires of each child.
Dalton’s “Dream Come True” was made possible by a generous donor, highlighting the vital role of individual and corporate contributions. The Sunshine Foundation relies entirely on such generosity to continue its mission. Those who wish to help make more dreams a reality can contribute by visiting www.sunshinefoundation.org.
