A 27-year-old Tennessee man received a 77-year federal prison term on Thursday for his role in producing child sexual abuse material and distributing animal abuse media connected to an extremist online network.
Kyle William Spitze of Friendsville, Tennessee, was sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of production of child sexual exploitation material, one count of abetting the distribution of animal crushing videos, and one count of possessing and accessing child sexual exploitation material with the intent to view it. Upon completing his prison term, Spitze must serve lifetime supervised release, register as a sex offender, and comply with specialized release terms.
Federal authorities identified the sentence as the longest ever handed down to a defendant tied to a Nihilistic Violent Extremist (NVE) group.
According to court filings and investigators, Spitze operated under online monikers including “Crimhn,” “Criminal,” and “Criminaloli.” He was an early member of the NVE group known as “764” and served as an administrator for an affiliated channel called “HarmNation.” Federal law enforcement said these networks coordinate on social media platforms to extort juveniles into creating extreme gore and sexually explicit material.
The FBI began investigating HarmNation in December 2023 following tips concerning the distribution of illicit material involving minors. Agents discovered Spitze managed a channel containing images and videos of underage girls who had inflicted cuts and gashes on themselves, often with variations of Spitze’s aliases carved into their skin or written in blood. The channel also contained images of animal mutilation bearing the same tags.
In February 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant on Spitze’s mobile phone, recovering corresponding media involving two underage victims. One victim later told investigators that Spitze threatened her, forcing her to write “crim” across her chest in her own blood and produce the media for upload. Officials stated that Spitze admitted during interviews that his actions carried a terrorist motive.
Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg said Spitze “was committed to bringing about the downfall of society through terrorism, specifically by targeting children and other vulnerable people and extorting them to engage in criminal sexual conduct, self-harm, and mass casualty events.” Eisenberg added that the 77-year outcome “sends a strong message that civil society will not tolerate such depravity.”
Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the Department of Justice remains committed to dismantling predatory online rings: “These types of crimes are the worst of the worst: preying on vulnerable children in the name of a violent and twisted ideology. Federal law enforcement will not stop until nihilistic violent extremist groups and their depraved members are identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
FBI Director Kash Patel noted that federal agents arrested 500% more NVE offenders alongside partner agencies over the past year. “This FBI is laser-focused on identifying, locating, and arresting any participants in Nihilistic Violent Extremist (NVE) networks – and we have dedicated personnel across all 50 states working on these high-priority investigations,” Patel said, commending the FBI Nashville Field Office and Knoxville Resident Agency for leading the inquiry.
Local prosecutors echoed the severity of the findings. U.S. Attorney Francis M. Hamilton III for the Eastern District of Tennessee said the penalty “reflects the abhorrent nature of the defendant’s crimes, which targeted impressionable children and caused unimaginable harm.”
Special Agent in Charge Terence G. Reilly of the FBI Nashville Field Office added that federal and local agencies “will use every lawful tool available to disrupt and dismantle these networks, prevent the spread of their depraved ideology, and protect children from further harm.”
The investigation was conducted by the FBI.
