A massive law enforcement sweep in Memphis resulted in 32 arrests on Monday, including two teenagers accused of orchestrating a fatal weekend shooting over a marijuana deal.
The sweep was conducted by the Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF), a multi-agency initiative launched under a federal mandate. Among those taken into custody were 18-year-old Jeremiah White and a 16-year-old juvenile. Both face a long list of charges, including first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, and multiple firearms violations.
The arrests of White and the minor stem from a shooting that took place Sunday in the 7100 block of Anisetree Drive. According to investigators, three people were injured in the incident, and one later died from their wounds.
The investigation began after three victims arrived at Methodist North Hospital in a car riddled with bullet holes. One of the surviving victims told officers that he had driven to the Anisetree Drive address to sell marijuana to White.
According to police accounts, White initially got into the victims’ car and rode with them to a local store. When they returned to the home, White went inside under the guise of grabbing cash for the deal. Instead, White and the 16-year-old stepped outside armed. The juvenile pointed an AR pistol at the vehicle and ordered the victims not to move, while White pulled a semi-automatic handgun from a backpack. Multiple rounds were fired into the vehicle before the victims managed to drive away.
After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, task force officers arrested both teenagers and recovered one of the firearms used in the assault along with other evidence. In total, authorities seized four illegal firearms during Monday’s city-wide operations.
The MSTF was established on September 15, 2025, via a Presidential Memorandum signed by President Donald Trump. The specialized unit coordinates federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, and also utilizes mobilized members of the Tennessee National Guard to target violent street crime, clear outstanding warrants, and locate missing children.
Monday’s operation adds to the massive volume of arrests made since the task force began its work. To date, the initiative has resulted in 9,975 total arrests in the Memphis area. According to official data, that tracking includes 91 homicide arrests, 1,109 for controlled substances, 959 for firearms violations, and 105 for sex offenses. Out of nearly 10,000 total people arrested, 293 were juveniles and 1,058 were identified as known gang members.
Law enforcement officials noted that the task force has also taken 1,700 illegal firearms off the streets and successfully located 154 missing children since its inception.
