A 30-year-old tourist was arrested on felony charges Tuesday after a dispute over a pool umbrella left a 72-year-old resort employee with multiple injuries.
Deputies responded to the Beachside Two resort on June 9 following reports of a physical altercation. According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started when a guest, identified as Collin Ross of Memphis, Tennessee, tried to take a pool umbrella from an area reserved strictly for employees.
When the staff member told him he could not take the equipment, an argument broke out in a nearby hallway.
Although the start of the physical scuffle was not caught on camera, witnesses and video footage captured the remainder of the incident. Authorities stated that the video shows the two men separated, with the older worker lying on the ground. Ross was then seen repeatedly hitting the man in the face while the victim offered ‘no resistance and posed no threat.’
Both men were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital for medical treatment. The resort employee suffered multiple injuries from the altercation, while Ross sustained a dislocated shoulder.
Following his medical treatment, Ross was arrested and charged with felony battery on a person over 65. He was released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond.
