In a heartwarming story that underscores the power of generosity and the magic of childhood dreams, Carlos Cervantes Jr., a young boy from Mission living with Level 3 Severe Autism, recently experienced an unforgettable “Magical Dream” trip to the Central Florida Theme Parks, thanks to the Sunshine Foundation and a generous donor.
On July 11, 2025, Carlos embarked on a journey that brought immense joy and wonder to him and his family. His mother shared her profound gratitude, stating, “Carlos had an unforgettable experience during his trip to Walt Disney World, and it truly had a profound impact on him. The dream of visiting the park brought joy, excitement, and a sense of wonder that he will cherish forever.”

She highlighted Carlos’s particular enjoyment of “the thrilling rides, meeting beloved characters, and experiencing the magic of Disney with his family.” For Carlos, this trip was more than just a vacation; it was “an opportunity…to step into a world of happiness and adventure, creating lasting memories that will uplift his spirits for years to come.” His family is “incredibly grateful to the donor for making this dream a reality. Your generosity has provided him with an experience that went beyond just a fun trip – it gave him the chance to feel special and valued.”
The Sunshine Foundation specializes in answering “dreams” for children facing lifelong severe chronic illnesses and conditions. Unlike some other wish-granting organizations, the Sunshine Foundation embraces children with diagnoses such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, Level 3 severe autism, Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, severe epilepsy, Sickle Cell Disease, blindness, deafness, and trauma from abuse, who might otherwise be turned away due to not having a life-threatening or critical diagnosis.

The “Dream Come True” for Carlos was made possible by the kindness of a dedicated donor. The Sunshine Foundation relies entirely on the generosity of individuals, organizations, and corporations to make these dreams a reality.
While a “Magical Dream” to visit theme parks like Legoland, Universal Studios, Disney World, and SeaWorld (often including a stay at the Sunshine Foundation Dream Village near Disney) is the most common request, the organization also fulfills “Special Dreams.” These can range from shopping sprees and technology like computers and iPads, to outdoor playsets, above-ground swimming pools, family trips, cruises, adaptive tricycles, and other vital special needs equipment.
