A Texas man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, who told him he might not be the baby’s father.

Dominick Rangel, 21, Waco, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with assault of a pregnant woman, according to KWTX. He was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.

The incident began Tuesday afternoon when Rangel’s girlfriend called the police after telling the man he may not be the father of the baby.

According to an arrest affidavit, the couple was lying in bed when Rangel asked what her family would do if she had a child with another man. After she reportedly laughed and said she would have her family’s support, Rangel allegedly became enraged.

The woman, who had recently discovered she was pregnant, told police that Rangel then allegedly punched her several times in the back.

She claimed Rangel asked if she would get an abortion, and she believed the strikes were “in an attempt to” cause a miscarriage. Rangel also allegedly started “breaking things” in their apartment.

The affidavit states the couple had been together for five years and share an older son. Rangel was taken into custody at the apartment without incident.
