A Texas man has been charged with murder following a fatal road rage incident that culminated in a shooting in the parking lot of Frisco High School last Thursday evening.

Jason Bartik, 45, of Celina, is in custody at the Collin County Jail on a $750,000 bond, charged with the murder of 34-year-old Robert Taylor.

According to a press release from the Frisco Police Department, officers responded to a call about a shooting around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the high school, which is located directly across the street from the police station. Upon arrival, police found Taylor on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The arrest affidavit, obtained by local NBC affiliate KXAS, states that Bartik was the individual who placed the 911 call, reporting his involvement in a road rage incident.

Bartik reportedly told police that the alleged incident began when Taylor was tailgating him on a nearby highway. In response, Bartik claimed he “brake-checked” Taylor.

Bartik told authorities he then drove off the highway and into the school’s parking lot, with Taylor reportedly following him. According to Bartik’s account, Taylor exited his vehicle and “approached [Bartik’s] driver side window yelling at him” before allegedly reaching through the window and punching Bartik in the face.

Bartik then allegedly retrieved his firearm and fired at least two shots at Taylor, who fell to the ground, according to the affidavit. Bartik was detained at the scene.

Police conducted an investigation into the shooting and subsequently arrested and charged Bartik with murder. Police confirmed that no students were involved in the incident.
