A former North Texas middle school principal faces criminal charges following allegations that he sold prescription weight loss medication to faculty members on his campus.
Gerardo Moreno Mendez was formally charged in June with the delivery or offer of delivery of a dangerous drug, according to court records. He was subsequently released on bond.
The charges stem from his time as a principal in the Crowley Independent School District. Court documents indicate that Mendez allegedly sold or attempted to sell Tirzepatide—a prescription GLP-1 medication sold under the brand names Mounjaro and Zepbound—to at least three teachers or staff members in January.
Following his time at Crowley ISD, Mendez accepted a position in April as the principal of Godley Middle School within the Godley Independent School District. He recently resigned from that role after his arrest, and the school has since announced the hiring of a new principal.
Representatives from his former employer declined to discuss the specifics of his departure. “Mr. Moreno is no longer an employee of Crowley ISD and the district is unable to comment on personnel matters involving former employees,” a spokesperson for Crowley ISD said.
Court records show that Mendez is scheduled to make his next court appearance next month.
