Texas Mom Arrested In Florida After Autopsy Finds Cocaine In System Of 2 Drowned Toddlers

A Texas mother has been arrested in Florida after investigators determined that her two young daughters had cocaine in their systems at the time of their drowning deaths earlier this year.

The incident began on February 11, 2026, when detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a double drowning at a residence in the 21000 block of Creek Edge Court in Katy, Texas. The victims were identified as two sisters, aged 2 and 3 years old.

A subsequent investigation into the incident revealed the presence of cocaine in both of the children’s systems at the time of their passing.

Following these findings, homicide detectives officially charged 23-year-old Laura Nicholson with two counts of Injury to a Child on Friday, May 8, 2026, citing her alleged involvement in the deaths of her daughters.

On May 11, 2026, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Criminals Apprehension Team, working in coordination with the Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, located and arrested Nicholson in Florida. She was subsequently booked into the Lee County Jail.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez expressed the department’s reaction to the case.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of two young toddlers — sisters — in our community. May these little ones rest in peace,” Gonzalez said.
