A 33-year-old Texas woman remains in custody after authorities say she exhumed the body of her newborn daughter from an East Texas cemetery. Tamisha Cheyniece Drake was arrested in Angelina County following a grim discovery at Davis Memorial Gardens.
The investigation began on Thursday when deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a disturbed grave site in the Cedar Grove area.
Upon arrival, investigators confirmed that a newborn’s grave had been dug up and the child’s body, along with the container used for burial, was missing from the plot.
According to local reports from Fox affiliate KFDM, the investigation quickly centered on Drake. During questioning, Drake reportedly admitted to deputies that she had dug up the remains of her baby, who had passed away following childbirth in February.

Following her confession, Drake directed law enforcement to an unoccupied residence. There, investigators located the infant’s body, still inside the original burial container, sitting in the driveway of the property.
Jail records indicate that Drake has been charged with abuse of a corpse. In Texas, this charge is classified as a state jail felony, which is the lowest felony level in the state. If convicted, she faces a potential sentence ranging from 180 days to two years in a state jail facility.
As of Sunday, Drake remains held at the Angelina County Jail. No information regarding her legal representation or an upcoming court date has been made public.
