Representative Al Green has introduced new articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, alleging the administration abused executive authority by utilizing federal immigration agencies as unconstitutional paramilitary police forces to target communities and pursue personal political objectives.
The resolution claims the president directed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to conduct unlawful detentions, suppress protected speech, evade judicial oversight, and bypass due process.
According to the filing, these actions systematically infringed upon rights protected by the First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
Legal advocacy group Free Speech For People announced support for the measure, arguing that the administration’s deployment of armed federal personnel exceeds constitutional limits.
“The Constitution does not permit the President to use federal law enforcement as his personal political police force,” said Courtney Hostetler, Legal Director at Free Speech For People. “Impeachment exists precisely for moments like this, when a president turns the government against the people and the Constitution.”
Suparna Reddy, Senior Counsel for the organization, stated that Congress has a constitutional responsibility to intervene when executive actions overstep legal boundaries.
“No president is above the law, and no president may use federal law enforcement as a personal political weapon,” Reddy said. “When the executive branch abandons constitutional limits and turns government power against the people, Congress has both the authority and the obligation to respond.”
John Bonifaz, President and Co-Founder of the group, called on congressional leadership to initiate formal proceedings immediately.
“This is an existential moment for our nation and our democracy. We either have a Constitution, or we don’t,” Bonifaz said. “Donald Trump has already engaged in multiple abuses of power. We call on our elected officials in Congress to carry out the mandate of their oath to protect the Constitution at this critical time by standing up and demanding impeachment proceedings against this lawless president.”
Through its Impeach Trump Again campaign, Free Speech For People has compiled 27 separate grounds for impeachment, encompassing allegations of financial corruption, violations of war powers, systemic First Amendment violations, defiance of judicial orders, and unlawful detention of U.S. residents.
The organization reported that more than 1.1 million people have signed its petition urging Congress to move forward with impeachment proceedings.
