Firebrand Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) privately criticized her progressive colleagues, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), accusing them of being self-serving and not prioritizing the Democratic Party.

The revelations emerged from a new profile in The Atlantic.

The comments came to light during a May meeting between Crockett and Representative Maxine Dexter (D-OR), as Crockett was considering a bid to become the senior Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. Dexter reportedly raised concerns about Crockett’s potential for conflict with party leadership, drawing parallels to Ocasio-Cortez’s early days in Congress.

Crockett, known for her sharp rhetoric and willingness to engage in verbal sparring, countered that she differed from Ocasio-Cortez by not wanting to “burn it down” and being more committed to advancing the Democratic Party as a whole.

She specifically targeted the “Fighting Oligarchy Tour” — a nationwide initiative by Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders — suggesting it was primarily a vehicle for their personal branding rather than a genuine party effort.

“[The tour] kind of makes people be like, ‘Oh, it’s about them, right?’ Instead of the team,” Crockett reportedly stated to The Atlantic.

Crockett ultimately withdrew from the race for the Oversight Committee spot after her comments about supporting a potential impeachment of President Donald Trump caused unease among swing-district Democrats.

This isn’t the first time Crockett has drawn headlines for her controversial remarks. She has a history of making inflammatory statements about Republicans and Donald Trump, including allegedly mocking Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” in March.

She also famously engaged in a heated exchange with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), which spiraled into personal insults and even led to Crockett selling merchandise based on the exchange.

Crockett’s candid assessment of her progressive counterparts offers a glimpse into potential internal divisions within the Democratic Party as it navigates its legislative agenda and prepares for future elections.
