Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett confirmed some pretty wild news on Monday: a man shot and killed by Dallas SWAT last week wasn’t just a random suspect—he was a key member of her own security team.
The man, known to the Congresswoman and her staff as “Mike King,” was actually Diamon Robinson. He had been living under an alias while being wanted for impersonating a police officer. The whole thing came to a head last Wednesday in a parking garage at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.
Bodycam footage released by Dallas Police shows a tense scene where officers tried to get Robinson to surrender peacefully. “It ain’t worth it,” one officer is heard saying. But according to the video, Robinson eventually pointed a gun at the officers, leading to a fatal volley of gunfire.

Crockett’s office released a statement saying they were “saddened and shocked” by the discovery. They explained that they followed every House protocol to hire the security vendor, which apparently worked with other local businesses and even coordinated with Capitol Police.
“The fact that an individual was able to somehow circumvent the vetting processes… highlights the loopholes and shortcomings in many of our systems,” the statement read. Crockett called the situation “incredibly alarming,” especially given the death threats many members of Congress face.
Interestingly, it wasn’t just the Congresswoman who was fooled. Local reports suggest Robinson managed to convince banks, hotels, and even some people in law enforcement that his security business was the real deal. Crockett’s team said they had known him for years and that he always acted with “respect, care, and commitment.”
Crockett, a former public defender who recently lost her primary bid for the Texas Senate, took to X to share her thoughts on the tragedy.
“I’ve always believed people are more than the worst thing they’ve ever done,” she wrote. “I believe in redemption. The man we knew showed up with respect, care, and commitment to protecting others.”
For now, the Congresswoman says her office won’t be making any more comments as the community tries to make sense of how a wanted man ended up guarding a federal official for years.
