Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett announced Tuesday she has not yet made a final decision on whether she will run for a U.S. Senate seat, stating that her choice is entirely dependent on internal polling data set to be finalized by the end of the week.

Crockett, who had previously indicated she would decide by Thanksgiving, stressed that her decision is not about personal ambition but maximizing Democratic chances to flip the Senate seat.

“If that polling comes back and says that there’s any Democrat that has a chance of winning in the way that I think we can win Texas, then I am going to support whoever that is,” she said.

She is testing for viability against the “two other major candidates” in the race and says he is committed to transparency by opening up her internal polling to them. The congresswoman believes that securing a Senate win in Texas is crucial to changing the national Senate map, which she views as the path to securing important legislation, such as “another voting rights act.”

Crockett is strategically focusing her polling on the general election viability, not the primary, arguing that previous third-party polls suggest a primary win is manageable. She dismisses the idea of a “mythical crossover” of Republican voters.

Instead, her strategy focuses on engaging non-traditional voters—those who feel ignored or have “never really had a voice.” Her internal polling specifically questions people who do not plan to vote, asking them if they would vote if her name or another specific name was on the ballot.

“I think that’s the only way that we win in Texas is if we have a candidate that can add to the electorate,” Crockett stated, indicating that without expanding the voter base, the results will remain the same as the last 30 years.

The decision-making process is complicated by the recent redistricting battle. Crockett admitted it would be “really, really hard” to leave her current district, which “absolutely wants me to continue to represent them.” However, she stated that if the numbers prove she is the strongest candidate, the goal of national change is “bigger than my district.”
