Texas School Board Sends Its Own Cops To Arrest Parents Who Speak Out At Meetings

President Joe Biden may not need Attorney General Merrick Garland to send FBI agents to harass parents at local school board meetings.

The locals seem to be doing fine on their own.

Case in point: The Round Rock Independent School District near Austin, Texas.

Conservative writer Christopher Rufo, best known for his work exposing the malice of Critical Race Theory, recently penned a piece examining how school officials in Round Rock used their own police force to crack down on parents who spoke out at board meetings.

Rufo’s tale focuses on two fathers: Jeremy Story, a minister, and Dustin Clark, a retired U.S. Army captain.

In one instance, back in August, Story confronted the school board for allegedly covering up an assault by schools Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez, who reportedly had attacked a mistress.

Story was cut off from finishing his talk and the school system’s police officers were ordered to physically remove him from the building.

At the very next meeting, in September, the board was set to discuss a mask mandate. The board, Rufo reports, locked parents out of the meeting chamber, which meant they could not opine on the mandate.

In those cases, Clark, joined by other parents, asked the board to open the meeting.

Yet the school board president directed the district’s officers to haul Clark from the meeting area. As cops dragged him from the session. Clark reportedly shouted, “It’s an open meeting! Shame on you. Communist! Communist! Let the public in!”

But it didn’t end there.

Days later, Rufo noted, “The school district, in coordination with law enforcement, sent police officers to the homes of both men, arrested them, and put them in jail on charges of ‘disorderly conduct with intent to disrupt a meeting.’”

They were both held overnight in jail.

“For many parents,” Rufo wrote, “the school board is sending a message: if you speak out against us, we will turn you into criminals.”

He also noted that they are not alone. In troubled Loudoun County, Virginia, the school board wanted the county sheriff to send a SWAT unit to patrol at its meetings. The sheriff declined.

And as The Free Press has reported, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland sent the FBI and federal prosecutors to work with school board members in trying to control parents after a group representing school board wrote President Joe Biden and complained that parents were the equivalent of “domestic terrorists.”

Rufo commented: “The battle lines are clear: on one side, the Biden administration, public school bureaucrats, and their armed agents; on the other, parents and families who oppose school closures, mask mandates, critical race theory, and corruption. Public school officials have demonstrated a willingness to use police power to silence and intimidate their opponents. If parents are to succeed, protesters must continue to organize peacefully and highlight corruption and abuses of power by local school officials.”

He also quoted Rev. Story, who told Rufo: “This isn’t just about Dustin and me. It is about everyone. If they can come for us and get away with it, school boards nationwide will be emboldened to come for you.”
