Texas Sen. Ted Cruz Rips Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy Over “Illegal Immigrant” Allegiance

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) took the stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Saturday, delivering a sharp-tongued critique of Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) regarding the Democratic Party’s stance on immigration. During his remarks, Cruz specifically targeted Murphy for comments he allegedly made about the party’s priorities, using them to paint a picture of a “radical and extreme” Democratic platform.

Cruz pointed to recent legislative friction over funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), claiming that Democrats are unified in their refusal to support the agency.

“The Democrat party today is a party of hatred of Donald Trump and open borders,” Cruz told the audience.

The Texas Senator then turned his focus to Murphy, urging the crowd to pay attention to the Connecticut lawmaker’s own words. Cruz cited a television appearance where he claimed Murphy stated that “the people who we care about the most—and by ‘we’ he meant Democrats—are illegal immigrants.”

Cruz used this quote to argue that the Democratic Party has shifted its focus away from American citizens.

The speech wasn’t just about criticism, however. Cruz highlighted a drop in illegal border crossings since President Trump’s return to office, asserting that “illegal border crossings have dropped more than 99%.” He also claimed this shift has led to a 20% decrease in both the murder rate and drug overdose deaths nationwide.

Looking ahead, Cruz promised a legislative counter-offensive. He announced plans for a new reconciliation bill aimed at securing funding for ICE and Border Patrol for the next decade.

He also called for the passage of the “Save America Act,” challenging Democrats to engage in a “talking filibuster” if they intend to block the measure.

Cruz concluded his remarks by framing the current political climate as a choice between “American strength” and the “weakness” he attributed to the previous administration, specifically citing the recent apprehension of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro by U.S. Delta Force as a turning point for global security.
