A high-profile seat in the House chamber will be filled by a familiar face from the world of venture capital next Tuesday. Senator Rick Scott of Florida has officially invited businessman and “Shark Tank” personality Kevin O’Leary to attend President Trump’s State of the Union address as his personal guest.

The move brings a spotlight to the intersection of federal policy and private enterprise, pairing a veteran lawmaker with one of the most recognizable voices in global finance.

O’Leary, a fellow Florida resident, is widely known for his blunt “Cold Hard Truth” persona on television, but his relationship with Scott extends into the halls of the Senate. The invitation follows O’Leary’s appearance before the Senate Special Committee on Aging in April 2025.

During that session, chaired by Scott, O’Leary testified as an expert witness regarding the risks Chinese Communist Party policies pose to American retirees and the broader investment landscape. This upcoming appearance at the Capitol signals a continued alignment on economic priorities between the two men.

Senator Scott framed the invitation as a nod to the “American Dream,” citing O’Leary’s history of building businesses and his transition from co-founding SoftKey Software Products to managing a multi-billion dollar exit with Mattel. Scott emphasized that having a private-sector leader present underscores his focus on job creation and economic growth.

For his part, O’Leary expressed honor at the invitation, noting that both he and the Senator view small businesses as the backbone of the national economy.

As the President prepares to lay out his legislative agenda, O’Leary’s presence suggests that the dialogue surrounding the speech will likely lean heavily on entrepreneurship and the protection of American capital.
