“The View” co-host Joy Behar said on Thursday that she agrees with President Donald Trump on his disdain against fired Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey.
Comey could face criminal charges for allegedly lying to Congress during his September 2020 testimony following an investigation overseen by Lindsey Halligan, a White House aide and Trump’s former personal attorney. In response to the possible indictment, Behar said that she also dislikes Comey for opening an investigation against former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton just 11 days before the 2016 election.
“You know what, I don’t like Comey. I agree with Trump on this one. I don’t like what he did to Hillary,” Behar said. “I’m just saying. But I rarely have something that I agree with Trump on, so this is one thing.”
In October 2016, Comey notified Congress that his agency had found newly discovered emails that appeared relevant to the closed investigation into Clinton’s emails on her private server. This decision violated Justice Department policy, which advises against taking any actions that could influence an election within 60 days of Election Day.
Comey’s potential charges relate to his response to Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on whether he authorized the leak of information regarding the Trump or Clinton campaign, in which he answered “no.” Cruz later said that former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe claimed that he had received approval from Comey to leak information to The Wall Street Journal about the FBI’s probe into the now-debunked claims that Russian agents colluded with Trump’s 2016 campaign.
Prosecutors are “nearing a decision” on whether to hand down charges against Comey. Halligan plans to ask a grand jury to indict Comey in the coming days.
Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard also referred Comey to the Department of Justice in July, citing possible criminal activity related to former President Barack Obama Administration’s narrative that Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia.
