‘The View’ Says Georgia Rep. MTG’s ‘Rebranding’ Is Just Launchpad For Senate, White House Bid

Sunny Hostin isn’t buying Marjorie Taylor Greene’s sudden change of heart. During Monday’s broadcast of “The View,” the co-host dismissed the Georgia Representative’s recent pivot to a more moderate tone, arguing that Greene’s upcoming exit from Congress is actually a calculated maneuver to set up a run for the Senate or the presidency in 2028.

Speculation about Greene’s political future has intensified since Friday, when she announced her resignation from the House, effective Jan. 5, 2026. While Greene cited frustrations with Washington gridlock, Hostin suggested the move is about political survival and ambition, specifically noting Greene’s fracturing relationship with President Donald Trump.

“I think that she’s going to run for Senate,” Hostin told the panel. “It’s pretty clear that by leaving Congress now, she can distance herself from the losses that will undoubtedly happen in 2026. I think the Democrats are going to take over the House.”

Hostin went a step further, alleging that Greene’s “turnaround” stems from a failed attempt to secure a specific endorsement.

“I think she wants to be a senator. It’s been reported that she went to Trump and asked for his backing to run for Senate, and he didn’t give her his backing,” Hostin said. “And that’s part of this turnaround. So I just don’t believe her.”

Not everyone at the table agreed with Hostin’s cynicism. Co-host Ana Navarro offered a dissenting perspective, stating she was willing to give the congresswoman the “benefit of the doubt” and believes Greene’s shift in rhetoric may be genuine.

Greene’s departure announcement on Friday included a broad critique of the two-party system. She expressed exhaustion with a federal government she says fails to improve lives, specifically citing the shipping of jobs overseas, rising national debt, and the funding of foreign wars as key failures.

This announcement follows a distinct shift in Greene’s public persona. In a recent CNN appearance, she apologized for her past use of “divisive rhetoric,” stating, “I would like to say, humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics; it’s very bad for our country.” She also had a surprisingly cordial appearance on “The View” on Nov. 4, where she discussed healthcare concerns and the expiration of Affordable Care Act tax credits.

However, the backdrop to this “new leaf” is a high-profile feud with the President. Tensions boiled over earlier this month after Greene refused to withdraw her name from a discharge petition demanding the release of files related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Following her refusal, President Trump told reporters on Nov. 16 that Greene was a “traitor.”

Greene has since fired back, criticizing the current administration’s foreign policy as failing to be “America First”—specifically citing missile strikes on Venezuelan narco-terrorist ships—and slamming Republican leadership, including Speaker Mike Johnson, for neglecting the healthcare crisis during government funding disputes.
