John Woodbury pleaded guilty to transmitting violent threats online.
A Georgia man, John Woodbury, 35, has been sentenced to seventeen months in prison for transmitting threats to injure then-FBI Director Christopher Wray. The sentencing, handed down last week, follows Woodbury’s guilty plea on April 18, 2025. He will also face three years of supervised release after his prison term.
The charges stem from a June 7, 2023, incident where Woodbury posted a violent message on the website 4chan.org.

In his post, Woodbury shared what he claimed was Director Wray’s home address and wrote, “Let’s show them what a fucking ‘Nazi’ . . . looks like. . . . It’s time to burn these mother fuckers down and hang them from trees. Hit them where it fucking hurts. Hit Chris at his home. Make his family fear stepping one foot outside their god damn door.”
U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg condemned the actions, stating, “My office has zero tolerance for threats against law enforcement officers. Threatening to harm public servants who enforce our criminal laws weakens the foundation of our society and will be punished accordingly.”

FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of protecting public officials. “The functioning of our democracy requires that our country’s public servants be able to do their jobs without fearing for their lives,” said Brown. “The sentencing of John Woodbury is yet another example of the FBI’s commitment to holding those accountable who threaten public officials.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Woodbury’s conviction for transmitting a threat in interstate commerce underscores the serious legal consequences for those who threaten violence against public servants.
