Tom Brady Buccaneers Rookie Card

Tom Brady Rookie Card Fetches More Than $2 Mil At Auction

TAMPA, Fla. – Tom Brady’s exodus from New England paid off for him and his new team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as Brady led the Bucs to their second Super Bowl title, and in the process posted his seventh personal victory in the NFL’s biggest game.

The 2020 season and its capstone win further cemented Brady’s standing as the GOAT – greatest of all time – by adding to the more than 50 NFL records he now holds.

But on Friday Brady set another record, away from the field.

The New York Post reported on Sunday that a trading card from Brady’s rookie year with the New England Patriots sold last week for $2.25 million.

That was $930,000 more than the previous record – also held by, you guessed it, Tom Brady. Fitbit CEO James Park bought that card just last month.

Brady had autographed the card, produced in 2000, sold last week. The opening bid was $75,000, according to the Post. Sixty-seven bids were made before the anonymous bidder got the prize.

“Tom Brady continues to shatter records both on and off the football field,” Mike Heffner, president of Lelands, a sport-related auction house, said in a statement.

In a later interview with ESPN, Heffner added, “I wasn’t shocked (by the price), but I was certainly surprised.” “I know the market is headed upward, especially with rare and desirable cards such as that one, but I didn’t really anticipate it,” he noted.

The card was originally purchased off eBay more than 10 years ago and held by a private collector, according to the lot description on Lelands’ website.

“One of only a handful ever offered for sale,” the notice says, “this is an opportunity to acquire the best Tom Brady rookie card available to the public.”

Readers can decide if that’s worth $2.25 million.
