Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton grew emotional as she read a portion of her planned 2016 victory speech as part of a new talk on the power of resilience.

Top Democrats: Hillary May Be The Party’s Last, Best Hope In 2024

Republicans may not want to gloat just yet, but this is how bad it is for Democrats: President Joe Biden is so bad that some liberals are pumping up Hillary Clinton as the Dems’ best hope in 2024.

As The Free Press posted on Wednesday, a Quinnipiac University poll found that Biden’s approval rating has cratered to 33 percent. It’s fallen three percentage points since the pollster published the last shocking sign of disapproval of the Democratic president in November.

Yet a pair of well-informed Democrats now promote Hillary as the “comeback kid.”

Writing in The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, Doug Schoen, a Democratic pollster and consultant who once worked for Bill Clinton, and Andrew Stein, a Democratic former New York City Council president, maintained that a “perfect storm in the Democratic Party is making a once-unfathomable scenario plausible: a political comeback for Hillary Clinton in 2024.”

Hillary sits at the eye of a storm created by Biden’s low approval rating and his age, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris’s unpopularity, and the lack, at least on the public stage, of a serious, strong Democratic candidate for 2024.

Those factors “have created a leadership vacuum in the party, which Mrs. Clinton viably could fill,” they wrote.

In August 2019, three years after her stunning loss to Donald Trump, pollster Charles Franklin of Marquette University noted that Hillary’s approval rating was a Bidenesque 32 percent at the time. He also mentioned that her net favorability rating was 29 points underwater, the nadir of her long presence on the national political scene, which began in 1993.

Schoen and Stein opt to not see that most Americans likely see nothing that would make Hillary more palatable in 2024 than she was in 2016, when, as liberals have said ad nauseam since, she won the popular vote over Trump. (Unless you exclude California where she ran up the score; take that away, and Hillary lost the popular vote by more than 1.4 million votes nationally.)

“She is already in an advantageous position to become the 2024 Democratic nominee. She is an experienced national figure who is younger than Mr. Biden” – younger yes, but would still be 77 when the 2024 election rolls around – “than Mr. Biden and can offer a different approach from the disorganized and unpopular one the party is currently taking.”

“Based on her latest public statements, it’s clear that Mrs. Clinton not only recognizes her position as a potential front-runner but also is setting up a process to help her decide whether or not to run for president again. She recently warned of the electoral consequences in the 2022 midterms if the Democratic Party continues to align itself with its progressive wing and urged Democrats to reject far-left positions that isolate key segments of the electorate,” the authors added.

Schoen and Stein even noted that Clinton is lobbing rhetorical grenades at Biden’s ineptitude and fecklessness. “It means nothing if we don’t have a Congress that will get things done, and we don’t have a White House that we can count on to be sane and sober and stable and productive,” she said recently.

Wrapping up, Schoen and Stein argued that Clinton can now sit back and craft a “moderate” political agenda that would highlight her as “the only credible alternative to Mr. Biden, Ms. Harris, and the entire Democratic Party establishment.”

“Hillary Clinton remains ambitious, outspoken, and convinced that if not for Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey’s intervention and Russian interference that she would have won the 2016 election—and she may be right. If Democrats want a fighting chance at winning the presidency in 2024, Mrs. Clinton is likely their best option.”
