Traffic Alert: Delays Hitting Hernando County Next Week, April 13-17

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers in Hernando County should prepare for a slower commute starting Monday as road crews move in for a series of scheduled maintenance projects.

Local officials have announced significant lane closures that will impact two major corridors through the middle of April, likely resulting in backups during peak travel hours.

The first and most extensive project is set for US 98. Starting Monday, April 13, and running through Friday, April 17, motorists can expect lane closures and flagging operations stretching from north of CR 491 (Citrus Way) to north of Landfill Road.

These operations are scheduled for a 12-hour window each day, beginning at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m. Because this stretch serves as a primary artery for the area, the use of flagging crews means traffic will be reduced to a single lane at times, alternating directions.

Additionally, a second project will affect Reynolds Street just east of US 301. This work is slated to begin slightly later in the week, running from Wednesday, April 15, through Friday, April 17.

During this time, the westbound lane will be closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Like the work on US 98, flagging teams will be on-site to direct vehicles through the construction zone.

Construction schedules remain subject to change based on weather conditions. Local authorities are urging drivers to allow for extra travel time, remain alert for workers in the roadway, and consider seeking alternate routes to avoid the expected congestion.
