HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 has issued a lane closure summary for Hernando County, advising motorists of upcoming roadwork on State Road 50 (Cortez Boulevard) from September 21 to September 27, 2025.

The closures are part of ongoing improvement projects designed to enhance traffic flow and safety in the area.

Travelers should be prepared for potential delays and are encouraged to use caution, especially during nighttime hours.

Specific Closures for the Week:

  • SR 50 Cortez Boulevard from south of Jasmine Drive to Mondon Hill Road: Lane closures will be in effect nightly from Monday, September 22, through Thursday, September 25, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. This work is likely associated with the widening of Cortez Boulevard.
  • SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) from Ridge Manor Boulevard to Riverland Clay Sink Road: Motorists will encounter periodic flagging and brief traffic stops during both night and day.
    • Nighttime: Sunday, September 21, through Thursday, September 25, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Daytime: Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FDOT reminds the public that these closures are necessary for construction crews to perform a variety of tasks, including widening, resurfacing, and other related improvements. These projects are part of a larger, long-term effort to upgrade the SR 50 corridor to accommodate future growth and improve emergency evacuation routes.

Commuters are advised to plan for extra travel time or consider alternate routes to avoid potential congestion.
