Traffic Alert: Traffic Troubles Looming For Hernando And Citrus Commuters Next Week

Motorists traveling through Hernando and Citrus counties should prepare for potential delays starting Sunday as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) kicks off a week of scheduled roadwork.

District 7 officials released a lane closure summary for May 3 through May 9, 2026, highlighting two primary work zones that will impact daily commutes.

In Hernando County, crews will be active on US 98 in the stretch extending from north of CR 491 (Citrus Way) to north of Landfill Road. Drivers can expect lane closures and flagging operations throughout the week.

This work is scheduled to run from Monday, May 4, through Friday, May 8. Flagging will be in effect daily starting at 6:30 a.m. and wrapping up by 6:30 p.m.

Travelers heading north into Citrus County will also encounter construction activity on US 19. The work zone is located between S. Jump Court and W. Venable Street. According to FDOT, there will be right shoulder closures on the northbound side of the highway.

These closures are slated for Monday, May 4, through Friday, May 8, with activity occurring between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. each day.

Local authorities advise drivers to stay alert, slow down in work zones, and allow for extra travel time while these maintenance projects are underway.
