TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa residents and visitors are urged to brace for “hauntingly high” traffic congestion and severely limited parking this weekend, October 25-26, as a multitude of large-scale events descend upon Downtown and surrounding areas.
City officials released a traffic advisory warning of massive pedestrian crowds and heavy delays due to the convergence of conferences, festivals, and major sporting events.
The weekend is wall-to-wall with activities, making travel around the urban core difficult, especially for drivers.

Saturday’s Gridlock Warnings
Saturday, October 25, is shaping up to be the most congested day, with several events kicking off simultaneously:
- Morning Rush: The ICMA Conference starts sessions and move-in at 6:00 AM at the Tampa Convention Center, drawing a large influx of professional attendees. Immediately following, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk begins its on-site presence at 7:00 AM near Raymond James Stadium/Himes, with the walk itself starting at 9:00 AM.
- Mid-Day Congestion: The Fight Wright Against Breast Cancer Festival at Perry Harvey Park and the Hyde Park Art Festival (which involves an overnight closure) both start at 10:00 AM.
- Afternoon & Evening Peak: The traffic crescendo will peak as the Haunted Halloween Carnival begins at 1:00 PM at Armature Works, followed by the Riverwalk Trick or Treat at Cotanchobee Park at 4:00 PM. The Tampa Bay Lightning will take to the ice at Benchmark International Arena for a 5:00 PM game (confirmed as a 5:00 PM start, likely against the Anaheim Ducks), adding a significant spectator load to the Channelside area. Three separate shows at the Straz Center start from 6:00 PM onwards, along with multiple Tampa Theatre showings.
Sunday’s Delays
While slightly less frantic, Sunday, October 26, will maintain high traffic density with the continuation of the ICMA Conference at the Convention Center, the Hyde Park Art Festival, and the second day of the Haunted Halloween Carnival at Armature Works.
Additional events include the Beyond Walls Concert at Water Works Park at 10:30 AM and the Taste of Latino at Centennial Park at 12:00 PM. The weekend closes with another Lightning Game at Benchmark International Arena at 5:00 PM (likely against the Vegas Golden Knights), coupled with multiple afternoon and evening performances at the Straz Center and Tampa Theatre.
A “Haunting” Number of Pedestrians
The advisory specifically warns drivers to be “on the lookout for large amounts of pedestrians… like a ghost,” and to use “extra caution… especially small children, families and zombies” due to the proximity to Halloween.
Alternative Transportation Highly Encouraged
To avoid the anticipated parking shortages and delays, organizers are strongly encouraging the public, “goblins, and ghouls” to use alternative transportation. Options include the free TECO Line Streetcar, DASH service, HART buses, and rentable scooters and bicycles.
Drivers are advised to check Tampa.gov/road-closures for the latest updates on any road closures that may affect their route. Plan your commute far in advance—or risk getting spooked by a standstill.
