A massive multi-agency manhunt came to a quiet end at a roadside checkpoint late last week, resulting in the capture of a 24-year-old man suspected of killing six people—including a seven-year-old child—in a single evening.
The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed on Thursday that Daricka Moore is now in custody facing first-degree murder charges. The arrest follows a chaotic series of events on January 9 in the Cedarbluff community, where authorities allege Moore attacked victims across three separate locations.

The search for Moore began to tighten after witnesses reported seeing him flee one of the crime scenes in a pickup truck belonging to a deceased victim. Investigators later discovered the truck abandoned in a church parking lot, leading them to believe the suspect was still on foot nearby.
Fearing Moore remained in the area, law enforcement from across the state—including the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force—established a perimeter, setting up safety checkpoints to inspect vehicles entering and leaving the zone.
Around 11 p.m., a white GMC Acadia approached one of the checkpoints. According to the Marshals Service, the driver had no identification and refused to provide his name to officers.

When deputies ordered the man out of the vehicle, they compared his appearance to a Mississippi driver’s license photo and identified him as Moore. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a Glock Model 36 pistol. Authorities later confirmed the SUV belonged to a victim found at the third crime scene.
Moore was transported to the Clay County Jail. While he is currently held on first-degree murder charges, officials stated that additional charges are expected to be filed as the investigation proceeds.
