Tragedy At Sumter County Intersection: Crystal River Man Killed In Collision With Semi-Truck

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old man from Crystal River lost his life Wednesday morning following a two-vehicle collision at a Sumter County intersection. The crash occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. at the junction of County Road 470 and State Road 44.

According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was driving a Kia Soul northbound on CR-470. At the same time, a 60-year-old Ocala man was operating a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on SR-44.

Troopers determined that the Kia Soul entered the intersection directly into the path of the oncoming tractor-trailer.

Investigators noted that there is a posted stop sign for traffic traveling on CR-470 at that location. The semi-truck struck the vehicle, resulting in a high-impact collision.
