ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A local man has died following a Tuesday morning collision in St. Petersburg. Robert Smith, 42, was rushed to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital with critical injuries after being hit by a Jeep, but officials confirmed he passed away late Tuesday night.
The accident unfolded just after 9 a.m. in the 4800 block of 22nd Avenue South. According to investigators, Smith was attempting to navigate through rows of cars stopped at a red light rather than using a designated crosswalk.

As he stepped into the path of westbound traffic, he was struck by a gray Jeep.
The driver involved did not flee; they pulled over immediately and stayed to cooperate with the police.
The investigation continues.
