A missing persons investigation took a dark turn on April 6, 2026, when a local couple was found dead in their home following a welfare check that initially turned up no answers.
The chain of events began around 12:30 PM when the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a local business. An employee had failed to show up for work, prompting a request for deputies to check on their well-being.
Law enforcement first visited the place of employment to get background details before heading to the individual’s address.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they found no one at the door. At that time, there were no obvious signs of foul play or a struggle, leading officers to move on and search other locations where the person might have been.

When those searches came up empty, deputies returned to the business to see if they could dig up any more leads.
While investigators were back at the business, family members and friends of the missing person went to the house and managed to get inside. Once indoors, they discovered Lorelei Strickland and her husband, Jarrott Strickland, dead in one of the bedrooms.
Witnesses reported that it looked as though the couple had been deceased for a significant amount of time.
Law enforcement was immediately notified, bringing investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office to the scene. Upon entry, officials confirmed both individuals were dead, each having suffered a gunshot wound.
According to investigators, there were no signs that anyone had forced their way into the home. Preliminary findings from the Medical Examiner’s Office and sheriff’s investigators suggest a murder-suicide, indicating that Mr. Strickland shot his wife before turning the weapon on himself.
Authorities have stated that the investigation into the deaths remains active and ongoing.
