A Florida man was taken into custody Tuesday after he allegedly ripped a necklace off a victim, pushed them to the ground, and attempted to escape on a tricycle.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on July 28 to a report of a robbery in the area of Orange River Boulevard. Investigators learned that the suspect, identified as Paul Sloan, ran up to the victim, tore a chain from their neck, and shoved the person to the ground.
Following the assault, Sloan fled the scene riding a tricycle and went into a nearby wooded area to hide.
Deputies searched the surrounding woods shortly after arriving and found Sloan standing next to the tricycle used in the escape. Because of the physical nature of the assault, detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit were called in to take over the investigation.
Investigators confirmed that Sloan matched the exact physical description of the suspect. After completing on-scene inquiries, detectives established probable cause and placed Sloan under arrest for Robbery by Sudden Snatching.
