TAMPA, Fla. — High temperatures and rising humidity will push heat index values into the triple digits across the Tampa Bay area this weekend, alongside typical summertime rain chances through late next week, according to the latest detailed forecast from the National Weather Service.
Conditions on Saturday will be mostly sunny, with an afternoon high near 93 degrees. Light winds from the south will shift out of the southwest at 5 to 10 mph during the morning hours. Forecasters report that humidity will drive the heat index—what the air actually feels like—as high as 103 degrees. Overnight lows will drop to around 78 degrees under partly cloudy skies as winds become calm.
Rain chances return Sunday morning, with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing mainly after 10 a.m. The agency places the chance of precipitation at 40 percent, alongside a high near 91 degrees and peak heat index values near 100. Winds will remain light and variable before turning west-southwest at 5 to 9 mph.
The typical pattern of afternoon and evening storms will continue into the workweek. Monday will see a high near 92 degrees and a 30 percent chance of scattered storms after 2 p.m., lingering until about 8 p.m.
Tuesday brings slightly drier conditions, with rain chances dipping to 20 percent and isolated storms possible after 2 p.m. High temperatures are forecast to climb near 94 degrees.
Rain chances will increase gradually through the second half of the week. Forecasters expect a 40 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms on Wednesday with a high near 93 degrees, rising to a 50 percent chance on Thursday.
By Friday, widespread activity will become likely, with the National Weather Service predicting a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms under mostly sunny skies and highs near 93 degrees. Overnight lows throughout the entire period will remain steady in the upper 70s.
