HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an overnight shooting that took place late last night in Seffner.
Investigators say, at 11:07 p.m. on January 4, 2022, dispatch received a call in reference to a robbery and consequent shooting that took place near the intersection of U.S. 92 and County Road 579.
The caller, a truck driver, who was attempting to repair his broken-down vehicle, was approached by a man who demanded various items of value. The driver handed him several items, and the man walked away.
Minutes later, the man walked back toward the driver and demanded his cell phone. The driver, who was in fear for his life, armed himself with a gun and shot the man.
Deputies say the man was pronounced dead at the scene. This is believed to be a case of self-defense at this time.
All parties are accounted for and this remains an ongoing investigation.
