Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed the possibility of diplomatic talks with the United States on Sunday, directly contradicting claims from President Trump that Tehran is pursuing a deal to end the current hostilities.
Speaking on “Face the Nation,” Araghchi stated plainly that the Iranian government sees no path toward dialogue as the conflict enters its third week.
The foreign minister denied that Iran has initiated any outreach to Washington. “We never asked for a ceasefire, and we have never asked even for negotiation,” Araghchi said during the broadcast.
He further emphasized the country’s military posture, noting that Iranian forces are “ready to defend ourselves as long as it takes.”
These remarks come in response to a series of statements from President Trump suggesting that Iran is under heavy pressure and looking for a way out of the war.
On Friday night, Trump posted on Truth Social that Iran “is totally defeated and wants a deal,” though he added that he would not accept the terms currently available.
He doubled down on this during a Saturday interview with NBC News, telling reporters that while Iran wants to negotiate, he is holding out because “the terms aren’t good enough yet.”
Despite the President’s assertions that the opposition is seeking terms, the Iranian leadership has maintained a public stance of defiance. Araghchi’s comments indicate that the two nations remain at a total impasse, with no formal communication channels open as the fighting continues.
